Site Surveys & Tech Scouting

Here is how this works in practice. We carry out tech site surveys that give a production a complete operational picture of each location before the shoot. Our team visits the site with the relevant heads of department, assessing access for crew and cars, ready power and the need for power packs, space for gear and unit base, sightlines, sound conditions, light and orientation, and any structural or heritage constraints.

Here is the breakdown. We document the findings with photography, measurements and notes, and we identify the practical issues that need solving — tight car entry in Amsterdam's historic centre, canal-side positioning, load-in routes for confined interiors — so they are resolved in planning rather than found on the day. Surveys feed directly into scheduling, gear planning, permit applications and risk assessment, and we set up them around the production's pre-production timeline.

Here is the short of it. In the Netherlands, site surveys also have to account for the country's specific conditions. The temperate, windy maritime climate means we check each location for weather exposure, drainage and shelter, and we review cover-set options for rain-prone exteriors. Heritage locations — buildings within the 17th-century canal ring, UNESCO-listed sites such as the Van Nelle Factory or the Rietveld Schröder House — may carry conservation constraints that the survey must capture.

Here is what that looks like on the ground. Wireless gear use, set by the Dutch Authority for Digital Infrastructure (the RDI), and any drone work under ILT oversight are checked against the site. Coastal and Wadden Sea locations add tide and access considerations. By surveying thoroughly and logging clearly, we give the production an accurate, dependable basis for planning, so each department arrives knowing exactly what the location can and cannot support.
