Here is how this works in practice. We supply gaffers and grips who execute the director of photography's lighting and camera-movement plan on Dutch shoots. Our gaffers lead the electrical department — rigging lighting, managing power and power packs, and shaping each setup to the DP's design — while our grips handle camera support, dollies, cranes, track and rigging. They work across drama, features, commercials and documentary, integrate with the camera department, and operate within the CAO collective-labour-agreement framework.

Here is what that looks like on the ground. Rigging and electrical work is set by Dutch workplace-safety law, the Arbowet, so safe practice is built into how the department works. Because Dutch crews are near-universally English-speaking, a global DP can direct a Dutch lighting and grip team with no communication gap. We match the gaffer and grip team to the scale of your shoot and integrate them from prep.

Here is the short of it. The Netherlands has a strong, pro grip and lighting base, supplied by well-stocked rental houses in the Amsterdam and Rotterdam clusters and trained through the Netherlands Film Academy and hands-on industry progression. Dutch crews are used to lighting the country's full range of environments — the controlled interiors of studios such as The country Film Studios in Haarlem, the canal-side and coastal locations with their changeable North Sea light, and the today's build style of Rotterdam.
